Hundreds of protesters opposing the Rio Games tried to interrupt the Olympic flame’s journey as it passed through the municipality of Niteroi in Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday.
The protest was against the expenses on the Olympic games.
“We are here to protest, not against the Olympics, but against the way financial resources were used on the games. “ organizers have used their companies, they have corrupted to them, just to earn more money,” said one protester.
They further complained that more than 11 billion euros have been spent on the games , funds meant for hospitals, where people are in critical conditions.
The Rio de Janeiro Olympics opening ceremony will be held on Friday at the legendary Maracana Stadium.
The torch’s journey has been beset by problems as it traveled around Brazil, including attempt by a man who tried putting it out with a bucket of water in Mato Grosso do Sul.
