Former Acting President of Burkina Faso Michel Kafando has been appointed as the Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres. His role includes leading and coordinating the United Nations political efforts to promote peace and sustainable development in Burundi and also provide assistance to the efforts of the East African Community for political dialogue among Burundi role players.
