A Kenyan couple who became a social media sensation for their simple wedding which cost 100 Kenyan shillings (equivalent to $1) have benefitted from a much grander wedding today on the occasion of Valentine’s Day.
Their second wedding which is estimated at the cost of $35,000 was made possible by funding from well-wishers. The event themed ‘Red and Royal Blue has everything that the initial ceremony lacked.
From armed police officers and security guards, three MCs for the event, an entertainment and sound team, photography and videography team, a catering team and even provision for kids corner at the venue known as Eden Bliss – which has a capacity of 400 people.
Wilson Muturu and his wife Ann Wambui got married late last month, where both bride and groom wore T-shirts and exchanged their vows without any celebration after the event.
26-year-old Wilson told the eDaily news portal that: ‘‘We went home, cooked ugali and sukuma wiki (a Kenyan delicacy), ate and slept. There was nothing special that we did on our honeymoon.’‘
But after their ceremony took the social media space by storm, a travel and tours company, Bonfire Adventures, announced a honeymoon package for them. They got a fully paid 5-day trip to the Kenyan city of Mombasa where they stayed in a four-star hotel.
