Libya
French government has denied that the country is meddling in Libya’s politics and that it did not intend to assert leadership on a a few individuals but to put an end to the crisis that began even before the fall of Muammar Gaddafi in the north African country.
This was confirmed by Nathalie Loiseau, the French Minister for European Affairs while she was in a diplomatic visit to Italy.
Earlier this week, Macron chaired talks between Libyan Prime Minister Fayez al-Serraj and the divided country’s eastern commander Khalifa Haftar.
Macron wants France to play a bigger role in coaxing Libya’s factions to end the turmoil that has allowed Islamist militants to gain a foothold and migrant smugglers to flourish in the absence of a strong central government.
