A prominent and respected traditional ruler of Ibadan land in Nigeria has died at the age of 101 years.
Nigeria's Revered King Olubadan of Ibadan dies at 101
The late Oba Samuel Odulana Odugade I, died Wednesday surrounded by family. He ascended the throne in 2007 at the age of 93 making him the oldest person to have been crowned Olubadan in recent history.
In private life, he was a teacher, a former soldier and a former member of the House of Representatives.
He also served as Parliamentary Secretary to Nigeria’s first Prime Minister, Alhaji Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, in the country’s first cabinet.
There has been an outpour of messages of condolences on social media.
