A senior Egyptian prosecutor says the body of the Italian student found on the outskirts of Cairo had signs of torture and cigarette burns.
Italy summons Egyptian Ambassador over student's death
The student of Britain Cambridge University, Giulio Regeni, 28, was found half naked and identified by a friend. A joint investigation by Egyptian and Italian experts has been launched into the matter.
Regeni went missing on January 25, his close friends said Regeni disappeared after leaving his home to meet a friend downtown.
Egypt’s Ambassador to Rome, Amr Mostafa Kamal Helmy has been summoned over the issue. Amr Mostafa Kamal Helmy expressed Egypt’s profound condolence over the unfortunate incident.
A statement from the Italian government on Wednesday called on Egyptian authorities to make every effort to ascertain the truth in the matter.
