Activists in South Korea held demonstrations Thursday morning protesting North Korea’s recent rocket launch.
South Koreans protest over neighbour's rocket launch
Dozens of protesters carried signs reading ‘Kim Jong Un out!’ and torched images of North Korea’s president.
The protests in South Korea’s capital, Seoul, also led to flags of North Korea being ripped at the rally.
“Our people and the international community strongly condemn the long-range missile launch and the fourth nuclear test by (North Korean leader) Kim Jong Un. We call for strong sanctions including the pull out from Kaesong Industrial Complex, cutting off electric power and water as well as a U.N. Security Council resolution,’‘ said the protest leader, Park Chan-sung.
Despite opposition from the international community, North Korea went ahead and launched what it says is an Earth observation satellite over the weekend. Other countries including South Korea say this is a front for a ballistic missile test.
North Korea continues to face pressure following its satellite launch a move strongly condemned by the United Nations. This decision could see the isolated country face additional sanctions.
Last month, the country carried out a miniaturised hydrogen nuclear device setting of warning bells.
