Bentiu camp in South Sudan is home to over 120,000 internally displaced persons who fled violence since civil war broke out in the country in 2013.
South Sudan: Internally displaced persons surpass 120,000 in Bentiu camp
It is among the 7 protection of civilians sites that the United Nations has set up in South Sudan and over time Bentiu has grown to be the largest .
The refugees in the camp usually receive psychosocial support as the experience of violence, displacement and confinement across the sites has contributed to community-wide emotional distress.
According to a recent study done by the United Nations Development Programme, 65 % of displaced persons in South Sudan have lost a loved one due to the war and suffer from psychological disorders.
The programme puts keen focus on women who have had to bear the harsh realities of civil strife.
