A total of USD 1.4 million belonging to former South African liberation icon Nelson Mandela’s estate has been distributed to beneficiaries he had listed in his will.

Among the list of 40 beneficiaries were his long-time driver and three members of his staff at his private home.
Other beneficiaries included South Africa’s Fort Hare University where Mandela studied, Qunu Primary school where he also studied and Orlando West high school in Soweto township where he lived.
In his will‚ Mandela made cash bequests to his grandchildren from his first wife Evelyn‚ and grandchildren and great-grandchildren from his second wife‚ Winnie Madikizela-Mandela.
Nelson Mandela was South Africa’s president between 1994 and 1999 after spending 27 years in prison for his involvement in the fight against apartheid. He died on December 5, 2013.
