Allegations that Moroccan state officials are favoured when buying land has divided public opinion in the country.
Morocco: State officials accused of preferential treatment in land purchase
According to local media, royal advisers and ministers receive preferential treatment when it comes to acquiring land.
But the country’s Interior Ministry has refuted the claims that government officials buy land at relatively cheaper prices.
The ministry in a statement indicated that the said land was part of a residential development plan dedicated to officials and public servants.
Civil society activists have launched a campaign on social media criticising the government of segmenting the citizens into “servants and enemies of the state”.
Political analysts say the scandal would certainly have an impact on parliamentary elections scheduled for October 7 this year.
