In less than two days, the G20 Summit will kick off in the People’s Republic of China, in the eastern city of Hangzhou.
African issues in the G20 Summit
The 19 leaders from the member countries plus the European Union have started arriving in the Asian country. African heads of state attending the summit include President Idriss Deby of Chad, Egypt’s Abdel Fattah al-Sissi, President Macky Sall of Senegal and South Africa’s President Jacob Zuma.
Some experts believe that African issues will also be high on the agenda in this year’s meeting, under its theme of working “Towards an Innovative, Invigorated, Interconnected and Inclusive World Economy”.
Among key African issues to be addressed include drought, famine, immigration, the slow economic growth and the fight against terrorism.
Other experts believe that China, considered as a key partner for Africa could also help in ensuring the continent is better represented in international forums.
The G20 countries account for 85 percent of the world economy and 75 percent of world trade, and accommodate two-thirds of the world’s population.
