Archbishop Desmond Tutu responding well to medication

South African anti-apartheid activist and veteran cleric, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, is responding well to a new course of antibiotics, his daughter has said, following social media reports that her father had died.

The 84-year-old Nobel Peace Prize winner, who has struggled with ill health in recent years, was re-admitted to hospital on Saturday to treat an infection following surgery last week.

She said that her father is in very good spirits and much more like himself than he has been adding that her father could leave hospital soon.

She dispelled rumours going around that the archbishop had passed away.

Tutu was hospitalised three times in 2015 over a persistent infection that his foundation – the Desmond & Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation – said was a result of the prostate cancer treatment he has been receiving for nearly 20 years.
