Nigerian President has told the UN General assembly that his country has made remarkable progress in its resolve to defeat Boko Haram. Buhari said that Boko Haram’s capacity to launch orchestrated attacks as a formed group has been severely degraded.

“In the last few months, their operations have been limited to sporadic use of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) against soft targets. Nigeria has continued to combat terrorism based on the established rules of engagement and in conformity with international best practices,” Buhari said.

Buhari also took his time at the dais to echo other African leaders about the lack of representation for his continent on the U.N.‘s Security Council.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi was also another African leader who addressed the assembly Sisi discussed pressing issues in the Middle East including the Arab-Israeli conflict and the Syrian war, saying that Egypt has been an “anchor” of stability in the otherwise turbulent region.
“While the Middle East still teams with bloody conflicts, Egypt has managed to preserve its stability in the midst of a highly unstable region thanks the solidity of its institutions,” Sisi told the U.N. assembly.
At the same time the president of the assembly Thomson Peters acknowledged the frustration of African countries in terms of their representation in the UN Security Council.

He was responding to remarks by Kenya’s Deputy President William Ruto who said the UN required reforms as Africa lobbies for a permanent slot in the Council.
