'Michelle will never run for office' – Obama

The President of the United States, Barack Obama, has dashed hopes of people who are of the view that his spouse, Michelle, should run for public office.

Whiles stating categorically that his wife will never run for office, Obama added that they will however continue to be active in the public space even after they exit the White House in January.

Obama spoke to the Rolling Stone magazine on a wide range of issues – from his presidency, about his imminent successor through to life after the White House, when asked ‘Do you think Michelle should run for office?’, he flatly refuted the possibility and even joked.

‘‘Michelle will never run for office. She is as talented a person as I know. You can see the incredible resonance she has with the American people. But I joke that she’s too sensible to want to be in politics.’‘

Michelle has been seen as a major pillar in Obama’s eight-year stay in Washington DC. Even long before then, she was always seen on campaigns with Obama. She has also delivered riveting speeches, the most being at the Democratic Party convention in endorsement of Hillary Clinton, also a former First Lady and Democratic Party nominee for the 2016 polls.

Talk went round that with her growing public stature, she should consider running for public office in the future.

Born on January 17, 1964, Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama is an American lawyer, writer, and First Lady of the United States (FLOTUS).

She is wife of President Barack Obama and mother of their two daughters, Malia and Sasha. She is also the first African-American First Lady.
