Faustin-Archange Touadera calls for a negotiated disarmament
According to the head of the State of the CAR, to bring an end to the insecurity issues, the country should apply the “Agreement for disarmament, demobilization, reintegration and repatriation received at the Forum in Bangui on May 2015.
He said in addition that the large number of weapons in circulation in the country would not only increase insecurity from political crisis, but also “ lead to banditry.”
Touadera administration is the first recognized Government ready to move the country forward on the issue of security. However, he hoped to achieve this by encouraging economic recovery of the Central African nation in 2020.
At the Brussels Conference on the DRC, held on November, donors such as the European Union promised to raise $2.2 billion to fund its plan for the rehabilitation of the Central African Republic.
United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki Moon has also expressed deep concern at the current violence in the CAR which has left at least 86 people dead.
In a statement released by his office Moon called on armed groups to immediately stop the violence and commit to addressing the root causes of the conflict.
