16 people were killed and 48 injured after a suicide car bomb explosion at the entrance of Somalia’s biggest port in the capital Mogadishu on Sunday.

The country’s head of ambulance service, Abdirahman Adem, confirmed the number to the media.
Al Shabaab released a statement after the attack claiming responsibility, local media Shabelle News reports.
“According to a statement released by Al shabaab, thirty police officers were killed when a bomber drove his vehicle into a police tax office located at the entrance of the seaport,” it quoted.
Most of the people killed and wounded in the attack were reported to be civilians and seaport employees.
This attack is the second in two days by the Islamist group to disrupt the ongoing parliamentary elections.
