The UN Security Council has condemned North Korea’s missile launching over the weekend.
UN condemns North Korea missile launch
North Korea’s state-run television showed video on Monday of the “successful” launch of a nuclear-capable missile and still photographs of leader Kim Jong Un supervising the operation.
The missile was propelled by a solid fuel engine and was an upgraded, extended-range version of its submarine-launched ballistic missile that was tested successfully last August.
While reiterating the importance of maintaining peace and stability on the Korean peninsula and in Northeast Asia at large, the members of the Council expressed their commitment to a peaceful diplomatic and political solution to the situation.
“The members of the Council agreed that the Security Council would continue to closely monitor the situation and take further significant measures in line with the Council’s previously expressed determination,” said U.N Security Council president, Volodymyr Yelchenko.
North Korea’s move has equally be condemned by the Pentagon adding that the United States is committed to protecting its homeland and allies such as Japan and South Korea.
