South Africa nuclear deal null and void, court rules [The Morning Call]
Plans to build nuclear power plants in South Africa will take a halt after a court ruled that president Zuma should have sought parliamentary approval for a deal with Russia. The western cape high court made the ruling yesterday morning that Zuma’s decision to call for proposals for the procurement of nine point six gigawatts of nuclear energy is unlawful and unconstitutional. Since October twenty fifteen when the case was first brought forward critics have feared the deal will be unaffordable and plagued by corruption.
