Wodabee: Male seduction contest [This is Culture]
In the middle of the Sahel, mainly in central Niger, about 45,000 Fulani Wodaabé live there.
They are nomadic breeders from an ethnic group at the origin of the most exceptional rite of seduction in Africa.
Each year at the end of the rainy season, that is, in the month of September, a ceremony takes place for 7 days: the Guerewol.
The feast is dominated by several dances under the theme of charm and beauty.
In the end the young women choose their husbands among the most desirable men.
We also explore bride price, commonly referred to as dowry.
In many African societies a dowry must be offered by the groom’s family before the marriage is approved.
However, dowry has become an expensive affair.
