Zip Zap school of circus arts [This is Culture on The Morning Call]

The Zip Zap school in Cape Town in South Africa was founded in 1992 and teaches young children a wide range of circus arts such as acrobatics, trapeze arts and juggling.

The circus school helps the students to discover themselves and to reveal their different abilities while having fun.

Children begin their training at age seven, continuing through to adulthood where they may become independent performers or stay with the Zip Zap Circus School and help out in all areas pertaining to the running of the shows.

The circus has held about 30 international tours performing for presidents and celebrities since it was started.

At the moment, Africa does not have many circus and art centres. Few examples of such institutions include the Fekat Circus school in Ethiopia, the Chapito Metisy in Madagascar, the Sencirk in Senegal and the Morocco’s Shems’y Circus school.
