Angola's ruling MPLA party in strong lead [The Morning Call]

Angola’s electoral commission has announced the first batch of provisional results from Wednesday’s general election.

The results shows a strong lead for the governing MPLA party with a 64% share of the vote compared to the main opposition Unita’s 24%.

A smaller opposition group, Casa-Ce, had eight percent. Voting is still going on in three provinces because of problems with the delivery of voting materials.

However leader of Angola’s main opposition Unita party has disputed the first set of results announced live on television by the election commission.

UNITA disputed the claim saying its tally showed a narrow race with only a seven percent gap.
