“In other words, with 56 still missing (presumed dead) the final death toll could be 414,” a Somali journalist with the Voice of America Service analyzed. The city has quickly moved to continue life after what has been classed as the worst bombing to hit Mogadishu.
There were protests against terrorism followed by a national clean up of the site of the attack. The government reiterated its vow to defeat terrorists. The country is home to al-Qaeda linked Al-Shabaab.
Even though it is a week after the attack, there has been no claim of responsibility by the group as is usually the case. On Friday, another car bomb exploded injuring two people.
The Horn of Africa country has gotten a lot of support from its neighbours – Kenya, Djibouti and Ethiopia, all of who sent medical supplies, in the case of Djibouti with 30 medical personnel to support.
Turkey and Qatar all airlifted some of the injured persons to receive treatment outside. The attacks have been roundly condemned by people and organizations around the world.
