Patrice Evra suspended after scuffle with supporter

Olympique Marseille defender Patrice Evra was sent off before his team’s Europa League fixture even began after aiming a kick at the head of one of his own supporters.

Evra, 36, who was due to start on the bench, has been taunted by fans following a series of poor performances since his move from Juventus in the summer.

After approaching a group of fans who had been insulting him during the warm up for the match against Vitoria de Guimaraes, Evra’s attempts to discuss the issue soon degenerated. As his teammates tried to intervene he aimed a kick over the advertising hoardings.

His club have launched an inquiry.

His team lost the game 1-0, ending with nine players following the more regular dismissal of Boubacar Kamara.

Evra, nicknamed in France Uncle Pat , was accused of launching a jibe at his critics when he posted a photo on Instagram last month showing himself giving out food to homeless people accompanied by the caption in English “What have you done today? Did you help somebody? Or did you just complaining and blaming someone else?”.
