Angry farmers protest in London

The farmers are protesting, among other things, against a proposed tax increase and the removal of a 1990s tax break that exempts farm property from inheritance tax.

From April 2026, farms worth more than £1 million ($1.3 million) will be subject to a 20% tax when the owner dies and the property passes to the next generation.

Protesters say the changes will ruin struggling family farms.
